Las Vegas Academy of the Arts presents its 14th annual Smith Center concert, Origins. A celebration of musical origins from cultures around the world by the school's music students, the performance features the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" euphonium soloist Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Buckley. He'll perform Dennis Llinás' "Sueños de Calle Ocho," with the composer in attendance. The evening will also showcase Dr. Nathan Southwick performing Maurice Ravel's "Tzigane" and acclaimed baritone André Chiang performing "Libera Me" from the Fauré Requiem.

All proceeds go toward funding the Clark County School District's Las Vegas Academy.

The UNLV Jazz Concert Series features performances by exceptional groups from UNLV's School of Music, Division of Jazz and Commercial Music. This month, it's the Jazz Ensemble II and Maryland Parkway Vocal Ensemble.

Student musicians at UNLV have received over fifty DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards since 2010, awards which are among the highest recognition in jazz education worldwide. UNLV Jazz ensembles and combos have performed at the acclaimed Monterey Jazz Festival, Village Vanguard and other notable venues throughout the nation.

These sculptural works by Wisconsin artist Amanda Langer ask the viewer to consider the relationship between humanity and the natural world. She explores the nature of conflict as a simplification between two entities that are wildly different and appear to have nothing to do with each other. She questions how the differences between the materials reflect the differences that humans experience, whether that be within individual selves, between persons, or amidst groups–whether in terms of race, religion, or political ideology.

Curious about how people identify each material with extremes on a spectrum, Langer attempts to show that the differences do not have to be in conflict and that it might be to the highest benefit of both that the differences exist, to show how the unique features of each enhance the best parts of the other, and that by being in combination, the result is much more powerful than either one could be on its own.

Amanda Langer studied sculpture and natural resources at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2017. She spent the following years working in ecological restoration and landscaping with native plants. Her artwork is informed by her experiences in this field and is especially focused on exploring conflict between industry and nature, systems and people, and within the self.

It's beginner-friendly virtual training on open-source and privacy-aware apps, including telemetry, cloud reliance, and digital alternatives. It is hosted by Laya, Rest & Reconnect LV's founder. She has several technology certifications and hands-on experience in website and network development. Rest & Reconnect LV is a grassroots organization creating accessible spaces for disabled and chronically ill people in the Las Vegas area.

The Summoning: The Good Girls Calling is a limited-capacity immersive theater experience by Hyde & Seek Las Vegas. Controlled Chaos Comedy is where the best performers from the Strip come to play. Created by Vinnie Masteghin and Alain Rochefort of Blue Man Group, it's a mix of stand up, variety acts, absurd characters, interactive games, and brand new material you won't see anywhere else. No two shows are the same.

Grace Community Church in Boulder City is hosting its 79th Annual Country Store. There will be thousands of donated items for sale, including furniture, clothing, collectibles, housewares, jewelry, children’s items, baked goods and more. Proceeds support missions and outreach and church improvements.

North Las Vegas Campus -- Fine Arts Gallery

Hope Means Nevada is a community-based non-profit focused on supporting youth mental health, eliminating youth suicide in the state and empowering Nevada’s youth to live hopeful lives. Its “Walk Across Nevada” is five-week statewide challenge running Oct. 17 to Nov. 21. Communities across the state are encouraged to log their miles using the Strava app to raise awareness for youth mental wellness.

“Walk Across Nevada” encourages teens and adults statewide to turn their everyday walks into meaningful action. Every step helps raise awareness for youth mental wellness while elevating HMN’s mission of eliminating teen suicide and empowering Nevada’s youth to live hopeful lives. Participation in the challenge is free, but fundraising for HMN is also encouraged.
