The City of Henderson Animal Protection Services is offering half off adoption fees for all animals six months and older Aug. 1 through Aug. 31. Adoption fees include routine vaccines, spaying or neutering, a microchip ID and registration, and a rabies tag or Henderson license. They normally range from $5 to $125. All adoptions are done in person, on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is necessary. The shelter is closed on Sundays.

The Charity Series of Poker presents the inaugural Fur the Love of Poker benefiting the Nevada SPCA. There will be an optional poker tournament with lots of prizes, delicious food and drinks, a silent auction, a DJ, and so much more.

Afro-Indigenous multidisciplinary artist Christina Monique Flores-Escobar, known professionally as Psychedelicchola, debuts her second solo exhibition, Desert Altars: A Iyawó’s Journey of Softness, Surrender & Spirit.

Created over the course of her iyaworaje, the sacred year following initiation in the Lucumí tradition, Desert Altars is, to the best of the artist’s knowledge, the first Nevada-based solo body of work dedicated entirely to an artist’s iyaworaje. Through contemporary painting, the exhibition documents a year of spiritual transformation, healing, ancestral connection, and self-discovery.

The collection also intentionally centers larger-bodied Black and Brown women as sacred subjects. In a visual culture where larger-bodied women, particularly women of color, are rarely depicted as divine or spiritually powerful, Desert Altars reimagines the body as an altar, challenging conventional narratives surrounding beauty, worthiness, and spirituality.

The Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month throughout September, exploring the intersection of culture, science, and innovation through special programming honoring Hispanic and Latino heritage. This year’s celebration launches Woven Throughout History – a new series exploring cultural values, beliefs, and stories expressed through textiles.

Programming includes an artist residency by Aleida Castro focused on the science of textile-making, cultural storytelling connecting tradition to innovation, and a spotlight on Hispanic contributions to science and technology.

The Village at Rancharrah, fondly known as “Reno’s backyard,”  is excited to welcome the community back for its popular Village Summer Concert Series presented by Dolan Auto Group, now entering its fourth year. This cherished weekly event brings together hundreds of locals to enjoy warm evenings filled with live music, connection, and celebration in one of Reno-Tahoe’s most vibrant outdoor destinations.

This free weekly event has become a beloved summer tradition in Reno, regularly drawing hundreds of attendees to the Village at Rancharrah. Guests are encouraged to bring low-back lawn chairs or a picnic blanket and settle in for an evening of live music in a relaxed outdoor setting.  The concert series offers a mix of local and regional performances across diverse musical styles. Outside food and alcohol are not permitted.

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN), School of Arts & Letters, and Department of Fine Arts invite the public to an artist reception and artwork dedication celebrating the Yoko Kondo Konopik Collection on Thursday, September 10, at 6 p.m. The reception will be held in the Level Up Gallery at the CSN Charleston Campus, E Building, 2nd Floor, and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The Yoko Kondo Konopik Collection consists of 11 paintings donated to the College of Southern Nevada through the CSN Foundation. Konopik is a Nevada-based, Japanese-American abstract painter whose work brings shape, line, and color together in compositions of extraordinary precision and quiet joy.
