Emily Moores is a visual artist whose hand-cut and ornately layered works range from intimate wall pieces to large-scale installations that invite the playful engagement of the body as essential to understanding and experiencing space.
Speaking of her work, Moores says that she transforms a physical space or surface of a paper into a whimsical environment using colorful patterns, textures, and ornamentation. The inspiration for intricate patterns and design elements comes from everyday objects, like wallpaper, decorative china, and playgrounds. With over-stimulation from screens and a fast-paced accomplishment culture, the physical nature of textures and patterns can bring viewers into the physical reality.

The “Atomic Stories” series is designed to bring history to life through expert perspectives, archival materials, and engaging discussions connecting past events to present-day conversations.
Includes a presentation by museum docent and former Nevada Test Site worker Marcus Brown. The program will explore the remarkable legacy of the USS Nevada, which was launched on July 11, 1914, as the namesake of a groundbreaking new class of U.S. battleships. Attendees will learn how the 27,500-ton vessel became the only battleship to get underway following the attack on Pearl Harbor, fought in both the Atlantic and Pacific, served with distinction in both World Wars, earned seven battle stars, and ultimately survived the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests as a target after the war. Following the presentation, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A.

The string ensemble Desert Opus explores a pivotal moment in Russian musical history, tracing the artistic journey from the lush lyricism of Alexander Borodin to the emerging modern voice of Dmitri Shostakovich.
The program features Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2 arranged for a string quartet, Borodin's deeply expressive String Quartet No. 2, and Shostakovich's youthful String Quartet No. 1. Together, these works reveal the evolution of a musical tradition shaped by both romantic ideals and a rapidly changing world.
During the recital, musicologist Heather Buffington Anderson will provide engaging commentary and historical insight, illuminating the cultural currents, artistic innovations, and human stories behind these extraordinary works.
Tickets must be purchased online.

Too soon, you say? Then note that Heidi Schreck’s historically sweeping play takes the edge off a touchy subject with humor and heart.
