Nevada State University’s Scorpion STEAM Academy week-long sessions invite young learners to immerse themselves in a dynamic educational experience blending science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Designed for students entering third through eighth grade, the STEAM Academy offers week-long sessions that inspire creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Students participate in hands-on activities that fuse science, technology, and the arts, empowering them to explore, create, and innovate in courses in a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
Each session runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2 through July 25, with flexible options available for “Before-School” and “After-School” programming. The STEAM Academy’s diverse curriculum is tailored to different age groups, ensuring that students build new skills, make friends, and have fun while preparing for future academic success.

Artist, curator, and Desert Companion contributor Brent Holmes’ exhibition People of Color opened during Black History Month, but it’s showing through August 7 at Las Vegas City Hall’s Chamber Gallery. Its multidiscipline works reflect American life through the lens of Nevada’s African diasporic artists, including Ashanti McGee, Joseph Watson, and Vogue Robinson, among others.
