Artown — Reno’s monthlong celebration of arts and culture — is now in full swing, and this year marks a major milestone: the festival’s 30th anniversary.

One of the most striking sights in the city this year? Eight massive, multicolored sculptures known as alebrijes and nahuales, towering 22 feet high in Downtown Reno. These vibrant figures, rooted in Mexican folklore, signal that Artown has officially arrived.

Joining us to talk about this year’s festival is Ally Ibarra from our sister station KUNR in Reno. And we’re also joined by Beth Macmillan, Artown’s executive director and one of the key people behind bringing those larger-than-life sculptures to the heart of the city.

Guests: Ally Ibarra, reporter, KUNR; Beth MacMillan, executive director, Artown
