There’s no shortage of what to see, hear, and do at any time in Nevada.

Here to help us sort out our weekend plans is KNPR producer Mike Prevatt, who oversees the arts and culture beat for Nevada Public Radio.

October 10-12

October 11

The ability to read whatever we like, while most of us take it for granted, is in no way guaranteed. And with the American Library Association recording more attempts to ban books in 2022 than ever before in its history, performances such as Free to Read: A Banned Books Week Event are timelier than ever. Staged by The Asylum Theatre, the evening is billed as a celebration of First Amendment rights and freedom of artistic expression.
Not to be crowded out of the busy Oct. 11-13 calendar, one of Henderson’s best festivals — and one the valley’s best cultural gatherings — returns for the 15th year. Thousands flock to the Aki Matsuri (or “autumn festival”) to watch various dance (including hulu) and martial arts demonstrations, hear both traditional and modern Japanese music, partake in poem (haiku) and flower-arranging (ikebana) activities, and indulge in food made by local Japanese dining institutions. Oh, and there will be an entire sake pavilion and kids’ activity area, so everyone’s covered.
This annual celebration, formerly known as the Asian Night Market, is happening during the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important holidays in many Asian countries. The festival often features beautiful lantern displays symbolizing prosperity and a time for family, reflection, and celebration under the full moon.

There will be more than 30 food and drink vendors, live entertainment and cultural performances, interactive family-friendly activities and games, and a chance for local restaurants, small businesses and artists to share their culture and stories.
Announcing the inaugural Best Friends Forever Festival, taking place Friday, October 11th through Sunday, October 13th at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. Over the course of three days and nights, some of the most beloved emo / indie rock acts originating in the '90s and early aughts will gather along with present-day torchbearers to play on two stages — 13 bands a day, with no schedule overlap. Headliners include Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap' N Jazz, and The Blood Brothers.
