Nevada’s top election official says his office is preparing to investigate concerns ahead of the 2024 elections.

Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar made the pledge yesterday, as the number of unfounded complaints regarding election integrity continues to climb.

Since 2020, his office has flagged 14 election-related cases for potential prosecution. It’s a small percentage of the total number of complaints, with nearly 700 Election Integrity Violation Reports filed during the 2022 election cycle alone.

Most complaints related to concerns about poll observers, ballots being undelivered, and voter registration maintenance issues. A vast majority of the reports, 86%, required no further investigation.

However, Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar says his office takes every allegation of voter fraud seriously.

“Many times, we receive reports of perceived election violations that isn't actually a violation. There are any number of reasons this can happen, from a lack of understanding of the law to an attempt to overwhelm our office with unfounded allegations. Regardless, we will investigate each report to the best of our ability and to make sure that our elections are secure.”

As part of an effort to assuage concerns, the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office has created a dedicated team of investigators to look into all reports of voting irregularities ahead of the 2024 elections.

That includes hiring two new civil investigators and one new criminal investigator who will report valid claims of voter fraud to the Nevada Attorney General’s Office for possible prosecution.
