The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony is still celebrating a big win for Indigenous healthcare from the 2025 Nevada legislature in their Advancing Tribal Healthcare Gala, on Aug. 6.
At the gala in Reno, several healthcare experts who helped get two Tribal healthcare focused bills passed were celebrated for their work. The state legislature ended in June with the addition of Senate Bill 97 and 312, a feat Reno-Sparks Indian Colony officials describe as “profound progress” to Indigenous communities in the state.
The state will create a new tribal health advisory board that contributes bills for each legislative session. And one of the laws also requires the state to have more Tribal representation to the state’s health insurance marketplace.
