Elko County Approves Budget, Suspends Hiring Freeze

Elko County Commissioners approved their budget this week and suspended a hiring freeze that’s been in place since March. The Elko Daily Free Press reports that since the hiring freeze was instituted, the District Attorney’s office reviewed the motion and determined there was no end date for the action. District Attorney Tyler Ingram spoke in favor of lifting the freeze, saying his office was already short a deputy district attorney and a case worker.

The budget approved for the next fiscal year has an ending fund balance of 6.45 percent and does not include any additional personnel.
