Pioneering Comedian Joan Rivers Dead At 81

Our 2010 interview with Joan Rivers.

Comic and television host Joan Rivers died in New York at 1:17 p.m today, following complications from a surgical procedure.

According to a statement released by the comic's daughter Melissa:

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."

Joan Rivers was a staple at Las Vegas venues, including The Venetian and the Riviera.

KNPR spoke with the comic in 2010.
