There’s no shortage of what to see, hear, and do at any time in Nevada. Here are some highlighted cultural events for the week starting April 1.

Thru August 20

Rhythm and Resilience: Black Vegas explores African American life in Las Vegas, from the arrival of its first Black resident through the 1980s, tracing the impacts of segregation and racial barriers while celebrating the creativity, resilience, and achievements that shaped the city’s character. Beginning with John Howell, Las Vegas' first African American settler, it follows the growth of a downtown Black community and its forced relocation in the early 20th century to what became the Historic Westside. Despite systemic exclusion, this neighborhood emerged as a vibrant cultural and social hub where residents built businesses, churches, and civic organizations, cultivated music and nightlife that drew world-class performers, and organized for civil rights and equity. By honoring these histories, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the enduring legacy of the African American community and its lasting influence on the identity, spirit, and future of Las Vegas.

The exhibition is curated by Carmen Beals and narrated by Claytee White. The exhibition closes Aug. 20, 2026.
Las Vegas Civic Center Gallery hours: Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Thru April 5

Inspired by E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India, Passage is a fantasia set in a colonized country where the friendship between a local doctor and an expat teacher is tested after a fateful trip to a local attraction. Obie-Award winning Christopher Chen’s contemporary play offers a provocative and engaging meditation on the imbalances of power.

A Nevada Conservatory Theater co-production with A Public Fit Theatre Company, directed by Ann-Marie Pereth and Joseph D. Kucan.

April 3

Join a whimsical 12-mile float through Black Canyon from Hoover Dam to Willow Beach, where you’ll spot giant colorful Easter eggs hidden along the shoreline as you drift through one of the most beautiful canyon landscapes in the Southwest.

This gentle, family-friendly river adventure blends festive fun with the peaceful scenery of the Colorado River. After the float, relax and refuel with a BBQ cookout along the riverbank while enjoying the stunning canyon views.
