Shareholder Sues Over Allegiant Air Safety Record

A shareholder of Allegiant Air has filed a lawsuit against the company and seven of its executives over its safety record.

Charlotte Woolery accuses the company of operating an unsafe airline, that has resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to Allegiant’s reputation.

The lawsuit was filed in Clark County District Court November 27.

Most of the accusations stem from reports regarding the airline’s mechanical issues that aired in a "60 Minutes" story in April. As well as, reports in the Tampa Bay Times.

The airline has been working since 2012 to upgrade its jets. Last month, they retired the MD-80 jet in favor of new Airbus A319 and A320 jets.

The lawsuit names Allegiant CEO Maurice Gallagher as well as the company’s president and board director Scott Sheldon and the company’s COO Gary Ellmer.
