Pilots at Allegiant Air have voted to authorize a strike if necessary.
The vote comes in response to Allegiant’s refusal to fix a scheduling system that the pilots say have negatively impacted their lives for years.
Voting took place over a one-week period from June 29 to July 6.
A strike could result in cancellations out of major hubs including Las Vegas, Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale.
The dispute centers on how Allegiant schedules its pilots through an in-house system based on the carrier’s “must-fly” days, which require all pilots at a particular base airport to fly regardless of the seniority with the company.
Nearly all other air carriers have adopted seniority-based scheduling systems.
Allegiant spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said the carrier is working with a vendor on developing, testing and launching a new scheduling program by the end of this year.
