Nevada energy regulators are proposing a cut in electricity rates for the first time in more than 3 decades.
The Nevada Independent reportsthe Public Utilities Commission published a draft order saying NV Energy should incorporate residential rate decreases for most of its Southern Nevada customers into its new three-year plan.
The reasoning outlined in the order mentions coal plant closures, rooftop solar’s increase in popularity and NV Energy’s current financial prosperity. The full PUC convenes today to greenlight the final order. If approved, the rate changes will not take effect until next year.
