🎞️ The special session of the Nevada Legislature has ended, and the film tax bill did not pass. The bill, which drew significant attention and debate on the floor, would have provided film companies with $120 million in transferable tax credits from 2029 to 2044.

🥖 One October day in 2017, James Trees was tromping through the desert near Kyle Canyon with a plug of sourdough starter and a five-gallon bucket of water. He stopped to tug gray-green leaves off sage bushes here, surgically cull paddles of beavertail cactus there. The chef and owner of Esther’s Kitchen was making bread — or, more fundamentally, formulating the genetic blueprint for what would become the restaurant’s signature sourdough.
“I put the plants into the sourdough, added water to it, stirred it up, and then left it out in the desert overnight,” he says. This bucket of slurry, impregnated with yeast-dusted valley flora, would eventually find its way to the plates of countless diners in the form of Esther’s renowned sourdough, served by the hearty, chewy half loaf with an array of spreads. 💲 Residents in Southern Nevada will receive their electric bills differently starting April 1. The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada voted to maintain NV Energy’s demand charge during yesterday’s meeting. Commissioners voted unanimously to uphold the rate structure, which is based on the 15 minutes of the day when customers use the most electricity. NV Energy says the demand charge will lower most customers’ bills, though advocacy groups and members of the public have opposed the change. Learn more about the controversial change.
🏎️ Lando Norris will tie David Coulthard as the most-tenured driver in McLaren history when the lights go out for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where the current Formula 1 points leader will make his 150th career start. It's taken the 26-year-old British driver seven seasons to catch Coulthard, an accomplishment he's grateful to have reached. He'll break the mark a week from Sunday when he starts the Qatar Grand Prix.
“It's crazy, it's a big number, matching DC for the number of races with McLaren. Qatar will be 151 so — I don't know what the word would be — the most-racingest driver for McLaren?” Norris said Wednesday night at the wet and cold circuit that runs down the famed Las Vegas Strip.
