YERINGTON, Nev. (AP) — School officials say they've addressed complaints of race-based bullying in a small northern Nevada town where the parents of two black high school freshmen say pleas for action had been ignored.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Monday the Lyon County School District said actions taken at Yerington High School were accordance with state law and district policies.
A statement said there had been no reported incidents since Oct. 26, and that staff continues to implement safety plans.
Taylissa Marriott and Jayla Tolliver, both 14, and their parents Nancy Marriott-Tolliver and Charles Tolliver told the Gazette-Journal the girls were targets of repeated racial bullying since the school year started.
The district says administrators, staff and students are trained each school year on policies and laws pertaining to a safe and respectful learning environment.
