Lyon County School District Suspends All Flyers For External Groups After Dispute With Church

A western Nevada school district has suspended external organizations from distributing flyers.

Lyon County School District made the decision to suspend all flyers and announcements after it received threats of legal action by a Dayton Church.

Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley claimed its flyers were excluded from distribution due to the church’s religious viewpoints.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the district’s board voted unanimously yesterday to suspend distributing any flyers at all.

In July, the board adopted a policy on acceptable material for its schools, and one of the guidelines stated that flyers intended to promote religious opinion or belief were not allowed.
