Lyon County School District Struggling To Recover From Computer Virus

A Northern Nevada school district is still struggling to recover from an online virus that shut down operations and phone services almost two months ago.

The Lyon County School District was attacked by a virus six weeks ago. Superintendent Wayne Workman told the Mason Valley News that a ransom was paid to restore services.

Workman did not say how much money was paid, only that it was negotiated through the district’s insurance company. An investigation showed no student or employee data was stolen from the system in the attack.

Workman says all systems should be operational before the start of the school year August 14.
