Judge Holds Firm On Oct. Trial In Las Vegas Mom Slaying Case

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Defense attorneys for a 19-year-old accused of killing a Las Vegas mother of four didn't exactly say Tuesday that they were ready for trial next month.

Augustus Claus, representing Erich Milton Nowsch Jr., said forensic and DNA experts he wants to call as witnesses may not be available.

But Clark County District Court Judge Michael Villani stood firm.

He said there must be other experts available, and told Claus that trial will start Oct. 19.

Nowsch's lawyers could still seek a delay, and attorneys for co-defendant Derrick Andrews might seek a separate trial.

Nowsch and Andrews have each pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder, weapon and conspiracy charges that could get each life in prison without parole in the Feb. 12 shooting death of Tammy Meyers outside her home.
