Beatty Town Advisory Board Supports Larger Hazardous Waste Site

The town of Beatty has lent its support to a proposal to expand a hazardous waste site.

The Pahrump Valley Times reports the town's advisory board wrote a letter to the Nye County Commission encouraging it to allow plans for the company US Ecology to expand an existing site located within Beatty's borders.

The letter cites the economic impact the facility has on the town, saying a 2014 study shows US Ecology directly and indirectly provides $17 million to the state.

Some residents have expressed opposition to expansion in the past, citing a desire not to be near hazardous waste.
