BLM To Remove Hundreds Of Wild Burros From Range Near Beatty

The Bureau of Land Management plans to capture up to 300 wild burros in July from the hills around Beatty.

The animals will be transported to a holding facility in Utah and put up for adoption.

The maximum number of burros in the management area is 91 and the BLM estimates the current population is around 700.

The allowable number has to do with protection of native vegetation and desert tortoise habitat, as well as adequate water and forage for the animals.
