New Las Vegas art exhibits explore notions of home and everyday life

There’s no shortage of art galleries and spaces in Southern Nevada — and subsequently, art exhibits to populate them.

While some reside in museums or permanent free-standing galleriesmany of them can be found in libraries, government-run buildings, and other public spaces.

All to say that opportunities to see Nevada artists’ work abound.

Here's a handful of art shows currently showing — or about to debut — as recommended by Desert Companion editor at large and arts/culture writer, Scott Dickensheets. Many of them focus on the identities and places of origin of their creators and subjects, while one of them explores the optical processes of the human mind.

  • Barrick Museum: Perception and Living Here (both through December 20)
  • Sahara West Library: Scrambled Eggs: Home is a Place Rooted Inside My Throat (through October 25)
  • East Las Vegas Library: Rick R. Ledesma: Living in a Memory (August 28-October 21)
  • Left of Center Art Gallery: Haide Calle: Furia Con Sueños (through October 18)
  • Clark County Museum: Visions of the Past: Artistic Reflections on 250 Years of America and Nevada (through October 24)
