There’s a lot to think about this fall as we return to the polls to vote on the future of the U.S. Senate, school boards and the many ballot questions.
There’s also our state legislature, where dozens of seats are up for grabs.
In the state senate, Democrats have held a majority since 2017. And if they win one more seat, they’ll have a supermajority.
In the assembly, Democrats already have a supermajority.
And here’s what happens if they get supermajorities in the senate and assembly: it would allow Democrats to overturn any veto by Governor Joe Lombardo, a Republican. Lombardo issued a record number of vetoes in 2023.
To fight off that possibility, the governor — who a year ago had 57% approval rating — has been very publicly endorsing Republican candidates.
So which seats are Republicans desperate to hold, and which ones do Democrats hope to flip?
