Escape from Area 51! Nevada Public Radio, Las Vegas Philharmonic present third live radio drama broadcast

Nevada Public Radio

On Wednesday night, Nevada Public Radio and the Las Vegas Philharmonic broadcast their third live theater-on-the-air production of ESCAPE FROM AREA 51!

The live production is a contemporary throwback to the beloved classic radio dramas of the 1930s and '40s, but with signature Las Vegas flare!

Families everywhere are invited to gather once again around the radio or streaming device of their choice and be captivated by an original, exciting drama that will appeal to all ages. Gain access to one of Nevada’s most intriguing mysteries through this one-night-only production that is sure to feel fresh, yet nostalgic all at once.

ESCAPE FROM AREA 51! is written by Joe Schoenmann, directed by Kate St-Pierre, with an original score composed and arranged by Jennifer Bellor, sound design by Martin St-Pierre, foley artist; Vincent Verderame, and announcer Mark Vogelzang. The score will be performed by Las Vegas Philharmonic musicians De Ann Letourneau (violin), Kevin Mills (cello), Paul Firak (bass), Jonathan Cannon (clarinet), Patrick Bowen (percussion) and Alexandria Le (piano).

Appearing in the cast are Marcus Weiss (Blue Man Group, Le Rêve), Sabrina Cofield (’He Can Get It’, ‘Harlem Renaissance’), Finley Cotrone (original voice of the Las Vegas Monorail), Jason Nious (Cirque Du Soleil), and KNPR’s Schoenmann plays himself, as well as another role in the production.

The radio drama depicts Schoenmann as the first visitor ever granted access to the world’s most well-known secret base, Area 51. The Department of Defense says they simply want to put an end to stories of “little green men” and extraterrestrial reverse engineering.
