John Edward Szeles, famously known as The Amazing Johnathan, performing a magic trick

This week comic-magician Johnathan Szeles, known as Amazing Johnathan to millions who saw him in Las Vegas or on Comedy Central or in recent documentaries, died at the age of 63.

He was a headliner in Las Vegas; you’d see him in his headband and raised eyebrow on billboards around the Strip. People will think he had it all because he won fame and fortune here.

But unlike a lot of the headliners in Las Vegas, even those who, like Szeles, live here, he was truly one of us. And his death has touched so many people, not just in the world of entertainment.

John Katsilometes wrote something of a love-letter to Szeles this week, a day after his death.

Listen to an interview with Amazing Johnathan on State of Nevada from November 2014, shortly after revealing his illness to his fans below.
