Just a month after the opening of the T-Mobile Arena on the Strip, plans were announced this week for another major Las Vegas entertainment venue.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has partnered with Madison Square Garden Co. and Azoff Madison Square Garden Entertainment to build a 17,500-seat music-focused arena on Sands Avenue just east of the Strip, behind the Sands-owned Venetian and Palazzo.

Cost, construction schedule, name and other details for the 400,000-square-foot property were not revealed.

It would join four other 12,000-plus seat arenas on or near the tourist corridor: Mandalay Bay Events Center, MGM Grand Garden, T-Mobile, and the Thomas & Mack Center.

Las Vegas-based show business blogger Scott Roeben offered his thoughts on KNPR’s State of Nevada.
