On Dec. 2, the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe broke ground on a second Spirit Mountain Casino located near the tribe's Thalypo gas station. It’s the tribe's third casino, joining the existing Spirit Mountain in Mohave, Arizona, and the Avi Resort and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada.

Based on feasibility studies they’ve conducted, the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe is optimistic that the third venue will increase economic development for tribal members.

“Fort Mojave, we gotta take care of ourselves when there’s nobody to take care of us,” said Timothy Williams, the tribe’s Chairman, during the Spirit Mountain ground breaking.

According to Williams, tribal members received their pay checks on time during the government shutdown, thanks in part to the economic stability provided by the tribe’s casinos.

There is currently no scheduled opening date for the second Spirit Mountain Casino location.
