Recent reports from the Nevada Gaming Control Board say gaming revenue in downtown is outpacing growth on the Strip.
The big question is why, and have those historic casinos downtown really turned the corner – are they providing something that tourists can’t find on the Strip.
Jonathan Jossel moved to Las Vegas almost 10 years ago to oversee property for Tamares Real Estate. He left the company 15 months ago to run the Plaza Hotel and Casino.
Tamares still owns the Plaza and several downtown Las Vegas restaurants, but has sold the Las Vegas Club and the Western.
As CEO of the Plaza, he has been one of the more creative minds downtown – the plaza was close to having the Las Vegas Wranglers - a minor league hockey team - play on its roof; it has put in a beer garden and is home to the steakhouse of former mayor Oscar Goodman.
But there’s more in store. Jonathan Jossel recently sat down with KNPR’s State of Nevada to talk about changes at the Plaza and in downtown Las Vegas.
