They are regular stories on the nightly news in Las Vegas.
A pedestrian was killed after being struck in a crosswalk by a car driven by a distracted driver. Or, a motorcyclist has died after colliding with a big rig on Flamingo Road.
Last year, there were 45 fatal pedestrian crashes through Nov. 15, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Transportation.
This year, those numbers have improved slightly – with six fewer pedestrians killed on Southern Nevada roads.
There have also been nearly 21 percent fewer fatal motorcycle crashes this year.
"We attribute the drop in crash fatalities to a combination of educational outreach, additional enforcement and safety enhancement projects," NDOT spokesman Tony Illia told KNPR's State of Nevada.
Illia said there is nothing more important than the safety of Southern Nevada's transportation system.
