Clark County is home to over 12,000 residents living with HIV, and now possible outlets for service and support are integrated under The LGBTQ+ Center of Las Vegas.
The Center, a nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness, social, and advocacy services to the LGBTQ+ community, announced its acquisition of two Southern Nevada nonprofits: Aids for Aids Nevada (AFAN) and Golden Rainbow.
AFAN and Golden Rainbow, both founded in the 1980’s, are dedicated to serving those living with AIDS. AFAN provides services like prevention education and case management, while Golden Rainbow provides housing and financial assistance.
Antioco Carillo is AFAN’s former Executive Director. Now, he will assume the role of The Center’s Chief Housing and Integrated Health Officer.
He says the consolidation will help provide more streamlined services to those in need, with comprehensive benefits including a one-stop access to services and long-term stability.
“[Clients] will continue to have the same services that they have accessed, but they will have the possibility of accessing additional services through the system that we have just consolidated,” Carillo says. “And, for donors, it's reassurance that the legacy of this organization will continue.”
According to Carillo, the acquisition has long been in the works. He sees it as the most proactive way to consolidate similar efforts in the face of increasing funding challenges.
All AFAN and Golden Rainbow employees will join The Center's staff to ensure a continuum of care.
