The financial struggles continue for the Nye County Regional Medical Center.
Just months after re-emerging from bankruptcy, the hospital in Tonopah is struggling once again to make payroll and is postponing payments to some employees and vendors.
Wayne Allen, CEO of the Nye County Regional Medical Center, confirmed to KNPR’s State of Nevada that “some vendors, doctors and employees, who are independent contractors, have seen their payments pushed 60, 90 or 120 days.”
Allen said the cause of the deficit was simple, “our volume will not support our expense structure.” He said there was a need to create the Northern Nye County Hospital District.
“The bottom line is we need a safety net underneath the operations, because probably the revenue here will never equal the expenses,” Allen said. “We need the tax to support operations.”
Nye County is in the process of creating a hospital district as part of a bankruptcy agreement to support the 12-bed facility in Tonopah. Nye Regional Medical Center is the only hospital within a 100-mile radius, with the closet medical centers in Bishop, Calif., or Hawthorne.
