Republican Governor Joe Lombardo has officially kicked off his reelection campaign in front of supporters at Rancho High School in Las Vegas on Monday, Sept. 15.
Lombardo made his announcement in front of hundreds of supporters, including members of the Laborers Union Local 872. He told the crowd he’s seeking reelection because he wants to continue the work he started as a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
“Three years ago, I turned in [my] badge and asked for your trust and confidence to continue that mission as your governor," said Lombardo. "That remains my motivation to keep Nevada safe, strong, and full of opportunity. We've accomplished a lot in the last three years, and serving as your governor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Now, Donna and I would like to ask again for your support to finish the job we started.”
He also took credit for his record 160 vetoes, saying he would continue to serve as a bulwark against bills coming out of the Democratic-majority Legislature.
“It's nothing to celebrate because of what that means, it’s bad government," said Lombado. "I won't hesitate for a second to say no again though.”
Many expect Nevada’s 2026 Governor’s Race to be among the most closely watched races in the country. Lombardo already faces a challenge from two Democrats, State Attorney General Aaron Ford and Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill.
The Cook Political Report last week rated Nevada’s governor’s race as a toss-up, with Lombardo seen as one of the most vulnerable Republican governors fighting for re-election in 2026.
