Las Vegas is heading into a weekend featuring the 50th running of a marathon that evolved from a flat, wind-swept desert event in 1967 to a glitzy neon-lit attraction for tens of thousands of participants on the casino-lined Strip.
The Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon return to Las Vegas this weekend, with four events, mostly along Las Vegas Boulevard, spread over Saturday and Sunday. Organizers expect about 45,000 runners, plus family and friends.
At this year's Las Vegas Rock n' Roll Marathon, some runners complained of bad-tasting water and became severely ill during and after the event. The Rock n' Roll marathon's Facebook page has since exploded with complaints about the race.
