Officials on Friday identified the third faculty member killed in a shooting at University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Wednesday.
She was Associate Professor Naoko Takemaru, 69 of Las Vegas.
Her biography on UNLV's website says she is the author of the book, "Women in the Language and Society of Japan: The Linguistic Roots of Bias."
"Her other publications include articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings, as well as book reviews.
Dr. Takemaru has taught all levels of Japanese language, conversation, composition, grammar, culture, and Japanese-English translation. She has also coordinated Japanese language programs at the university level. At UNLV, she oversees the entire Japanese Studies Program, and teaches upper-division courses on Japanese language, culture, and business.
Dr. Takemaru has received the William Morris Award for Excellence in Teaching from the College of Liberal Arts at UNLV."
The other two victims were identified Thursday as Professor Cha Jan "Jerry" Chang 64, of Henderson, and Assistant Professor Patricia Navarro Velez, 39, of Las Vegas.
All victims died of gunshot wounds.
UNLV President Keith Whitfield said Dr. Chang was a longtime educator of management information systems, with 20 years of "teaching a generation" at UNLV's Lee Business School.
Whitfield said Dr. Navarro Velez "devoted her career to educating the next generation of accountants. She joined UNLV nearly five years ago as a professor of accounting, where she primarily focused on teaching accounting information systems."
A GoFundMe was set up for the Navarro family, and was verified by the crowdfunding platform.
