Washoe County School Superintendent Susan Enfield announced plans to resign from the state’s second-largest school district on Monday.
In a letter to the district‘s board of trustees, Enfield said she was stepping down as superintendent in early February, citing a desire to be closer to family in Washington and an interest in pursuing “other opportunities."
Her resignation comes a little more than a year after taking the position and just weeks after the board gave her a positive review and a significant raise.
During her time in the Reno-Sparks area, Enfield said she’s proud of her work to adopt a new strategic plan and negotiate increased teacher and administrator pay.
Enfield’s departure comes as some state lawmakers consider changes in how school district administrations operate, especially in light of recent events in the Clark County School System, including a student’s death and the lack of a new teacher contract.
