ESPN reports that the NHL and NHL Players' Association are aiming for a January 13 start date for the new season, with either a 52- or 56-game schedule.
The plan will also include temporary divisional realignment, schedules and coronavirus protocols.
It must first be approved by the NHL's board of governors and the NHLPA's executive board. Talks have slowed in recent weeks because of a financial stalemate.
