Nevada SPCA Gets New President, Board Of Directors

The Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has replaced its previous president and board of directors, who all stepped down earlier this year amid an investigation of possible misuse of donated money.

The Reno-based Humane Network oversaw the selection process for nine new board members from a pool of more than 35 applicants.

The new board assisted in interviewing and considering more than 50 candidates before choosing Lori Heeren as the new president of Southern Nevada’s only no-kill animal shelter.

Heeren is a Nevada native and has helped organize Nevada SPCA fundraising events for 15 years.

The Humane Network is cooperating with an Attorney General’s office investigation and has hired an external firm to review the shelter’s financial records.

The NSPCA is also suing former president Kathleen Jung, saying she refuses to hand over control of a shelter-affiliated email account.
