On Monday, Congresswoman Dina Titus introduced legislation to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex individual rights worldwide.
Nicknamed the GLOBE Act, the Greater Leadership Overseas for the Benefit of Equality legislation outlines leadership positions in the U.S. that would deal with LGBTI rights around the world.
In a statement, Titus’ office said the Trump Administration has refused to fill the State Department position of Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI persons.
The GLOBE Act would codify in law the Special Envoy position, and require the State Department to document human rights abuses against LGBTI people.
