Lawyer To Challenge Mother's Admission About Girl's Drowning

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A lawyer appointed to represent a Las Vegas mother in what authorities call the intentional bathtub drowning of her 2-year-old daughter made it clear to a judge that she'll challenge her client's statements to police.

Deputy Public Defender Sarah Hawkins also objected to media video coverage of 44-year-old Linette Boedicker's court appearance Tuesday on a murder charge.

Boedicker also uses the name Warrichaiet. She wasn't asked to enter a plea.

Judge Joe M. Bonaventure let news cameras remain, set Boedicker's bail at $1 million and scheduled a court date Friday ahead of a May 28 preliminary hearing of evidence.

Police say Boedicker told a 911 dispatcher Saturday she held her daughter under water until she stopped breathing.

Hawkins says it's not clear any admission to police was lawfully obtained.
