NDOT Says It Can Keep Running, Despite Government Shutdown

The Nevada Department of Transportation says it can keep running as usual despite the government shutdown – at least for now.

The Nevada Appeal reports the Federal Highway Administration “continues normal operations due to special contract authority funding” according to NDOT officials.

NDOT was authorized for the first quarter of the federal fiscal year before the shutdown began, allowing the agency “short-term [NHWA] funding for new project obligations.”

However, longer-term work could be at risk if the shutdown goes on for too long. NDOT receives about half of its funding from the federal government in the form of some $380 million in fuel taxes.
