LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say a 43-year-old man who was shot and killed by a motorcycle officer reached for a homemade knife on his belt and grabbed the officer's stun gun during a struggle following a weekend traffic stop.
Assistant Clark County Sheriff Brett Zimmerman told reporters Tuesday that Demontry Floytra Boyd was shot twice and died at a hospital after the one-on-one fight Saturday morning east of downtown.
Body-worn camera video showed veteran Officer Paul Bruning telling Boyd he had been stopped because he was driving recklessly and Bruning radioing that the vehicle wasn't registered.
Zimmerman says Boyd ignored commands not to reach for the item in his waistband, and video showed Boyd shook off effects of the stun gun and rushed at Bruning before he was shot.
