CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Officials say a 63-year-old Nevada inmate has died in prison while serving 40-years-to-life for hiding in the trunk of his wife's car and killing a man he suspected she was having an affair with in 1998.
The state Department of Corrections said Wednesday that Tam Cong Nguyen died Saturday in the infirmary at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, outside Las Vegas.
The Clark County coroner scheduled an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
Nguyen was found guilty by a jury in 1998 in the murder of Dennis Vanduser and sentenced in 1999.
Authorities say Nguyen hid in the trunk of his wife's car while she was at work.
When his wife gave Vanduser a ride home after work, Nguyen emerged and fatally shot Vanduser several times.
