January sees a lot of big conventions come to Las Vegas, but one taking place this week is getting a different sort of attention.

It's called SHOT Show, but some people have thought it's not right for the show to be happening in Las Vegas.

Why? It's a gun industry trade show, and it's happening down the road from the site of the worst mass shooting in modern American history.

Polly Mosendz covers the gun industry for Bloomberg Businessweek. She said even though some expressed concern about the location, a protest planned for the even really didn't attract many people.

The difference might be in the tone of the show. Unlike a traditional gun show where firearms are displayed, bought and sold, SHOT Show is really an industry tradeshow for people in the shooting and hunting industries.

"It’s really anything and everything to do with the firearms industry," she said.

In addition, the show has been in Las Vegas for several years -- it was booked well in advance of the 1 October shooting on the Strip.

It is also already scheduled to come back in 2019.
