A group that's pushed for years to overhaul Utah's system for nominating political candidates won't ask voters to end the state's caucus and convention system after all.
Count My Vote said in a statement Wednesday that they've decided a compromise law allowing candidates to use the caucus system or get on the primary ballot by gathering signatures has generally worked out well.
The group is now aiming to instead ask voters to protect the law that's been challenged by Utah's GOP in court. The case has been unsuccessful so far, but the GOP has appealed to the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
They want to ask voters to reduce the number of signatures that candidates need and approve other refinements to the law passed in 2014.
