UT Speaker Says He May Be Tapped For Trump Admin

Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes says he could be under consideration for transportation secretary in President-elect Donald Trump's administration.

KSL-TV reports that Hughes, a Draper Republican, says Trump's transition team has contacted him and is apparently interested in ideas Hughes presented at a national transportation conference last week.

Hughes says it would be "pretty hard not to take that seriously" if the president-elect asks him to serve.

The lawmaker is a former chairman of the Utah Transit Authority board and a proponent of a comprehensive transportation approach. He has served int eh Utah house since 2002 and was recently re-elected as speaker.

Hughes was one of the first Utah politicians to support Trump and stay behind him during the presidential campaign.
