The U.S. government is giving Nevada $978,000 for a plan to try to cut the rate of prisoners who re-offend.
The grant announced Wednesday will go toward a plan that focuses on men convicted of drug crimes or who committed property crimes where drug use was a factor. The plan will try to give prisoners skills to adjust to life outside prison so they don't end up back behind bars.
Nevada Department of Corrections Director James Dzurenda says property crime accounted for 80 percent of all crime in Nevada in 2014 and it makes sense to focus the program on those offenders.
