Clark County Commission Approves Tax Hikes For Stadium, Police

The long march to a potential NFL stadium in Las Vegas took another step forward today thanks to the Clark County Commission.

Commissioners Tuesday took up and later approved increasing taxes to fund the construction of the stadium, proposed for the Las Vegas Strip.

That vote will increase hotel room taxes on the Las Vegas Strip by 0.88 percent and elsewhere in the county by half a percentage point to fund the stadium's construction.

Additionally, room taxes countywide will go up an additional half a percentage point for renovations and expansions to the Las Vegas Convention Center.

County sales tax will increase by a tenth of a point to fund new police officers.

The police tax increase passed unanimously, while the other two were opposed by Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani solely.
