Inmate At Northern Nevada Correctional Center Dies

Nevada prison officials say an inmate who had been admitted to a Carson City hospital has died.

Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Keast said Wednesday that 57-year-old Wilfredo Jimenez died early Tuesday morning at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

Keast declined to offer details about what authorities suspect caused Jimenez's death, citing medical privacy laws, but says it's related to medical issues that led officials to admit him to the hospital. She did not know when he was first admitted to the hospital.

Keast says the death is not related to any foul play and Jimenez did not have a cellmate at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

He had been serving a one to two-year sentence for coercion.

Keast says an autopsy is being scheduled.
