Smoke From CA Wildfire Triggers Air Quality Concern In Reno

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Smoke from a California wildfire burning more than 300 miles away has prompted Washoe County health officials to issue an air quality warning for the Reno-Sparks area.

The county's Air Quality Management Division said readings climbed into the unhealthy range for sensitive groups shortly after noon on Monday.

Officials said active children and adults, and people with asthma or lung disease should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

The smoky haze is coming from a massive wildfire that has destroyed 20 homes and burned across 23 square miles outside the scenic Big Sur region of California's Central Coast.

Carson City also was under an air quality warning Monday. A warning also was issued in Las Vegas on Monday as a result of smoke coming from another big fire burning near Los Angeles.
