Inmate Dies In Carson City Hospital

Nevada prison officials say a 52-year-old inmate serving life with the possibility of parole on child sexual assault and lewdness convictions has died in custody at a Carson City hospital.

The state Department of Corrections said Thursday that John Crowley had been housed in the prison medical facility at Northern Nevada Correctional Center before he was moved early this month to Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Crowley was imprisoned in March 2002 after being sentenced in Carson City District Court to 20 years to life in prison.

He had appealed his convictions and sentences to the Nevada Supreme Court.

Prisons spokeswoman Brooke Keast says Crowley was the 27th prison inmate to die in custody this year.

That compares with 47 prison deaths in all of 2015.
