A British citizen is due in a U.S. federal court on charges alleging that he tried to grab a police officer's gun to shoot presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at a Las Vegas campaign rally.
Michael Steven Sandford is expected to plead not guilty Wednesday to charges that could get him up to 30 years in prison if he's convicted of disrupting an official function and two firearm possession counts.
He's been in custody since his arrest June 18 at the rally at the Treasure Island hotel-casino. He was indicted last week.
Federal agents say Sandford told them he drove from San Bernardino, California, to Las Vegas to kill Trump, and went to a Las Vegas gun range to learn to shoot the day before Trump's appearance.
